Good to Know
Questions, answered.
How booking works, why there’s no fixed price list, what to expect from a consultation, and everything else people ask before their first visit.
How do I book an appointment?
Two ways. Use the online booking page to request a service, or call or text your stylist directly using the number on their profile. Because every chair is independently run, going straight to your stylist is usually the fastest route — and it’s how you get the exact time slot you want.
Why isn’t there a price list?
Each stylist sets their own pricing based on their experience, product line and the time your hair actually needs. Color especially can’t be priced from a menu — density, length, history and target all change the work involved. Your stylist quotes you at consultation, before anything starts.
What are your hours?
The salon operates on stylist availability rather than fixed retail hours, including evenings and weekends by arrangement. Contact the stylist you’d like to see and they’ll offer times that work — many can accommodate early mornings and after-work appointments.
I’m a new guest. What should I book first?
A consultation, if you’re making any significant change. Fifteen minutes before anything starts is the single best predictor of loving the result. For a straightforward trim or a color you’ve had before, book the service directly and the consultation happens in the chair.
I want to go blonde. What should I expect?
It depends entirely on what’s already in your hair. Virgin hair can often reach a clean blonde in one long appointment. Hair with box dye, old black or years of build-up will take a series of sessions spaced six to ten weeks apart to protect its integrity. Our blonde specialists will tell you honestly which one you are. More on color →
Can you fix a color that went wrong?
Usually, yes — but correction is its own discipline. It’s priced by the hour, may take more than one visit, and always begins with a consultation and a strand test. Bring photographs of what happened as well as what you want. Color correction →
Do you do weddings and bridal parties?
Yes — hair and makeup, trials included. Because we have both hair stylists and makeup artists in-house, a full bridal party can be handled in one place with one timeline. Book as far ahead as you can; spring and autumn Saturdays fill first. Bridal & makeup →
Are kids’ and men’s cuts available?
Absolutely. Several stylists specialize in kids’ cuts, men’s cutting and curly cuts — check the specialties on each profile and pick the chair that matches. Find a stylist →
How long do extensions last, and what’s the upkeep?
Move-ups are typically every six to eight weeks depending on your growth and the method. Good-quality hair can often be re-used across more than one install if it’s cared for. Budget for the maintenance appointments, not just the install. Extensions →
What’s the difference between keratin and a Brazilian Blowout?
Keratin generally gives the bigger reduction in curl and volume but has a waiting period before your first wash. A Brazilian Blowout smooths with essentially no downtime and keeps more of your natural movement. Which is right depends on how much curl you actually want to lose. Smoothing →
Who performs the injectables?
Neurotoxin and dermal filler are performed by a licensed injector, with pricing set by the injector and confirmed at consultation. Every appointment begins with an assessment and a conversation about what is and isn’t appropriate for you. Aesthetics →
How far in advance should I book before an event?
For a wedding: six to twelve months for the date, with a trial a month or two out. For injectables or facials: at least two weeks before any big event so everything has time to settle. For color before a holiday: a week out, so you have time for a gloss if you want one.
What’s your cancellation policy?
Each stylist runs their own book and sets their own cancellation terms — they’ll confirm them when you book. As a courtesy, as much notice as you can give means they can offer the slot to someone on their waiting list.
Where do I park?
We’re at 301 N 1st St in the Downtown Wylie Historic District, with street and lot parking nearby. Allow a couple of extra minutes on market weekends — and enjoy the shops while your color processes.
Do you sell gift cards?
Gift arrangements are handled by each stylist individually. Contact the stylist you have in mind, or email the salon at orie_cross@yahoo.com and we’ll point you to the right person.
I’m a stylist — do you have chairs available?
We keep a waiting list for both chairs and private suites. Details and how to enquire →
